WELCOME TO FAIRFIELD

COMPASS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

2023-2024 School Year

Important Information for Back to School!

Final Forms- VERY IMPORTANT – Take care of this now!

To ensure you receive important information from the district and school, please make sure we have your most up to date contact information in Final Forms.  Final Forms is the way we are collecting almost all the beginning of the school year paper work from parents.  If you have not yet completed your Final Forms, you need to do so ASAP.  The link to do so is https://fairfield-oh.finalforms.com/     Please call us at 513-858-8700 if you need help completing your Final Forms.  We are happy to help!

Transportation

BUS RIDERS

Parents of bus riders, please know that your child will automatically be routed on a bus to your home address unless you complete the Babysitter Transportation form which is now on Final Forms.  So, if you're wanting your child to ride a school bus to a babysitter (not to your home address), we need this form completed BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS. Remember, we can only transport within the Compass school area, so this only works if your sitter lives in the Compass area. And again, this is completed on Final Forms.

Bus number, stop location, and arrival time can be found on our website www.fairfieldcityschools.com <Departments<Transportation<Enter Your Address, Get Bus Stop Info. Remember, all children are routed to their home address listed on Final Forms, not a babysitter or anywhere else, unless you complete the babysitter transportation form.

DAILY PICK UP STUDENTS

If you are planning to have someone pick up your child EVERY day at 4:00 p.m. (which means you do not want us to put them on the school bus), you NEED to fill out the daily student pick-up form. If you plan to have a daycare pick up your child every day, this is also the form to fill out. We need this information BEFORE the first day of school. If this form is not completed, we assume that you want your child to ride the bus home.  On this form, please notice how our everyday pick up procedures will be similar to last year. Every day pick up parents will not need to enter the building at all, but you will need to pick up your dismissal tags before the first day! See the form and more details by clicking/copy and paste the link below.

Open House/Meet the Teacher Night

Teachers will mail home welcome/introduction letters on Friday, August 4th. This will be full of needed information to start the school year so be on the lookout!

Additionally, in-person Open House/Meet the Teacher Night will be held at Compass Elementary on Wednesday, August 9th! Please see the times of Open House presentations below:

  • AM Kindergarten, Grades 1st and 2nd will be from 6:00-6:45 PM
  • PM Kindergarten, Grades 3rd , 4th, and 5th will be from 7:00-7:45 PM

There is also a lot of back to school information on our website at www.fairfieldcityschools.com.

Go to “Schools” tab, then Compass.

First Day of School

Starting this year, all students K-5 will be on a staggered start schedule for their first day of school. We believe this process will result in a more seamless start to the school year and allow time for questions and troubleshooting in smaller numbers. What that means is:

  • Only students with last names beginning with letterA-L will start the 2023-24 school year on ThursdayAugust 10, 2023 and will NOT report on Friday, August 11th, 2023.

  • Only students with last names beginning with letterM-Z will start the 2023-24 school year on Friday, August 11, 2023,  and will NOT report on Thursday, August 10th, 2023.

  • All students in grades Kindergarten through 12th will attend on Monday, August 14, 2023.

*Parents/guardians of students in blended families or who have other special circumstances may contact our office at 513-858-8700.

School Hours

For students grades 1-5, hours are 9:30 AM until 4:00 PM.  For kindergarten, the AM session is from 9:30 a.m.-12:10 p.m. and the PM session is from 1:20 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Lunch

Proposed pricing for 23-24 meals is as follows:  Breakfast: $1.50 and Lunch: $3.10. Your child is welcome to pack, but if not, we will make sure they get a lunch.  However, if your child wants to purchase additional snacks, they will need money on their lunch account.  You can send in a check, cash or use the PaySchools system to reduce the opportunity for lost money.  Our Café Terminal keeps track of each student account balance.  This information does not apply to kindergarten students, as they follow a half day schedule and are not here during lunch time.

While not required by USDA, it is the policy of the Fairfield City School District Food & Nutrition Services Department to allow students to charge meals when sufficient funds are not available during the student’s assigned meal period.

This policy allows students to receive a meal at both breakfast and lunch, charging up to $-12.00 (K-5) and up to $-10.00 (6-12). Once this charge limit has been reached, the student will then be offered a peanut butter or cheese sandwich, fresh fruit and/or vegetable, and a milk for lunch at a price of $1.00. For breakfast, they may choose a breakfast entrée, fresh fruit or juice, and milk at a price of $1.50.

Students who are charging, have a negative balance, or owe charges are not permitted to purchase a la carte items such as snacks, extra milk, ice cream, etc. All funds that are brought in for the student’s account will be deposited toward the outstanding balance until the balance is paid in full.

Students will be notified when their balance becomes low or negative at the point of sale. Charge letters will be emailed or sent home monthly for accounts with a negative balance within this threshold.

For the 2023-24 school year, the price of reduced and paid lunches will be as follows:

Breakfast- $1.50 (Regular) $0.30 (Reduced Price)

Lunch- $3.10 (Regular) $0.40 (Reduced Price)

Feel that your family may qualify for the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program click the link for more information.

PTC

Compass has a wonderful PTC (Parents and Teachers for Children) which will meet throughout the year.   Please feel welcome to attend and participate in any of our many activities throughout the year.  This is a wonderful way to stay informed of all that is happening here at Compass. Please find and like us on Facebook at Fairfield Compass Elementary School PTC to stay up to date! Our first meeting of the year will be held Tuesday, August 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Compass Media Center.

Latchkey

Latchkey is available here at Compass.  The hours are from 6:30 AM - 9:30 AM and from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.  You need to register your child for this program prior to use.  Information packets are available in the school office.  Latchkey’s phone number is 513-858-8698 if you have questions.

Dress Code

A copy of the dress code policy for Fairfield City Schools is included in the Elementary Handbook which is on Final Forms.  Let’s help our students establish good habits right from the start.  Our most frequent issue is shoes with no back strap.  It is for their safety that we require shoes to be firmly attached to feet.  Flip-flops and Slides are not permitted.  Additionally, we have seen with our older students that purses/mini backpack purses can become a distraction, so please avoid bringing these to school unless absolutely necessary. We ask that purses/mini backpack purses be kept in student cubbies throughout the day, if they must bring them.

Student Absence

If your child is going to be absent from school, send us an e-mail to [email protected] by 9:30 AM (1:20 PM for PM kindergarten). This will notify us and count as your written note for your child’s return! If you are unable to email us, please call the office by 9:30 AM on the morning of the absence (1:20 PM for PM kindergarten) to let us know, along with sending in a note with your child when he/she returns. If we do not receive an email note from you each day of an absence, an automated Remind message will let you know that your child is missing from school.
