Why We Proofread ... (A Continuing Series)

Why do we proofread? Sometimes it is so we do not get sued for calling someone a drug addict, as opposed to a drummer.

Wed., May 6, Assignment

Greetings,
On Wednesday, May 6, we started prep work for a test on Thursday. Students read a poem (Maya Angelou's "Still I Rise"), watched a commercial (a United Negro College Fund ad that uses the poem), and then read a New York Times article that talks about the poem and the ad, annotating and taking notes on all three.
On Thursday, students will be answering two essay questions asking them to compare and contrast the different elements, and to evaluate how the commercial transformed the original poem. They need to be thinking about author purpose in addition to other elements.
* Also, students need to have done the Vocab for Act 2, Scene 1 of Raisin in the Sun.

The first assignment was Act I, Scene I, due Thursday, April 30.
The overall packet will be checked for a final grade at a later date, but it may be checked at any time to see if students are staying on track.

RITS Raisin Reading Guides, Acts 1-3

Attached are all three Reading Guides for A Raisin in the Sun. Each act will be distributed separately (beginning with Act 1 on Wednesday, April 29, 2015), but I decided to make them all available now since so many students seem to be going on field trips or out of town for other reasons. This way, there is no reason why students cannot access the Reading Guides.
Also coming soon: All 3 acts of vocabulary words.
