FHS Senior Named National Merit Semifinalist

Fairfield High school senior William Bernard was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist in a competitive scholarship program in which 1.6 million high school students participate annually. Of those, 50,000 advance to semifinalist status. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year. About 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. In September, these high scorers are notified through their schools. William is shown here with Aaron’s Blankenship, the Fairfield High School senior class assistant principal.

Quality Profile Released this Month
The Quality Profile is a comprehensive, community‐oriented companion to the State Report Card. The profile includes additional accountability measures - not included in the state's report - that better define a high quality public education. It was released earlier this month.
The Quality Profile examines aspects of public school life that the community values, including results on standardized testing measures. Its content is divided into six categories that include academics, arts, student leadership and activities, fiscal stewardship, parent and community  involvement, and student services.
The Quality Profile is supported by the Alliance for High Quality Education, an education consortium that works to improve educational opportunities for students and to speak for member districts on matters of educational policy and funding. View the latest profile by right-clicking here.
