Week of Monday, November 30th!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families and everyone got their fill of turkey!!!

We will be starting Unit 4 in our Reach reading program!  The overall theme for this unit is teamwork and what we do to help one another.  Look for the family newsletter tomorrow! Our main comprehension focus will be analyzing character traits as well as making connections.  We will do this with our main story from our anthology, "Aesop's Fable: The Lion and the Mouse".  Remember, they will bring home their book this Thursday to share the reading with you.  This counts for the reading calendar!  We will focus on the phonics skill of using vowel digraphs: ai, and ay.  We will also continue to practice spelling multisyllabic words along with high frequency words in spelling.  We will continue working on writing complete sentences in our stories as well as focusing on the beginning, middle, and end of a story to make sure we have all parts when writing a piece.

In math, we will continue working with bar models this week.  Our focus will continue to be comparing bar models as well as some two step problems.  Please make sure to check the formative assessment that will go home tomorrow to see how your child is doing with bar models in class!  Remember, there will be no new skill for math fact fluency this week.  You received a letter last week with the facts your child still needs to master.  This week will be used to retest those students on certain facts.  If your child has mastered all the facts...you have the week off for fact practice! :)

We will finish up our social studies unit on life then and now and to help wrap up this unit, students will have a timeline project.  Details will be sent home later this week.  Students will have a couple of weeks to complete the project!
