Third Grade Reading Guarantee

Ohio's Third Grade Guarantee ensures that every struggling reader gets the support he or she needs to be able to learn and achieve.  It is a support program that spans kindergarten through grade three.  Under the guarantee, teachers assess each student's reading skills at the beginning of each school year.  If a student is reading below grade level, the school creates a reading improvement plan for the child.  That plan includes extra reading help right away and for as long as the child needs it.
Staffing Plan
Fairfield City Schools submitted a staffing plan to the Ohio Department of Education addressing the credentials held by teachers currently teaching third grade students.  To view the plan, click on the link below.

External Service Providers
Students who are retained in the third grade due to the Third Grade Reading Guarantee must be offered the opportunity for tutoring from an external service provider.  Fairfield posted a Request for Proposal during the summer of 2014.  The providers selected to be used in the district are:  ATS Project Success, Sylvan Learning Centers, and the YWCA Literacy Program.
