The program is a collaboration between the FCSD and the Family and Children First Council. It is a countywide initiative with classes already established in Lakota, Middletown, Hamilton and Talawanda school districts. Additionally, Miami University completed an assessment of its effectiveness and found the positive impact on students and families to be significant.
Families participate in 10 weekly session, where parents and children attend in separate groups. Trained facilitators guide parents through the project curriculum, while teens work through the "Why Try" curriculum. Parents and students must both attend in order to be part of the program.
Food and child care are available, to eliminate potential barriers for families attending.
The program needs 30-40 parents before March 30, the night of the first session. Once they are identified, please encourage them to sign up by contacting Anna Weber, Parent Project Coordinator at 513-867-7072 or by email: email@example.com.
