FAIRFIELD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Five-Year Plan
Update

Vision Statement
Excellence, Preparation for Life, Opportunities for All

Since September 2005, a group of Fairfield City School District teachers, faculty, parents, administrators and community members have been meeting to develop a new five-year plan for the district.
A Steering Committee with membership from various stakeholder groups has been overseeing the activities of five Action Teams: Instruction, Facilities, Family Ownership, Community Connectedness and Innovations. Each Action Team has identified compelling needs and results of fulfilling those needs, and from those statements each Action Team has developed Action Items, specific activities to answer the needs.
On Tuesday, June 6, 2006 the Steering Committee and its five Action Teams presented their final report to the Board of Education during its work session. The Steering Committee at that time requested formal approval of the new Five-Year Plan at the June 15 regular Board of Education meeting. The plan was approved with no changes.
To learn more about the new five-year plan, or to become involved, contact School and Community Relations Director Beth Wagner or the Superintendent's Office at (513) 829-6300.

Plan Highlights
The Steering Committee’s Charter is as follows:

*To assure proper membership of internal and external representatives
*To assure committees have sufficient membership
*To review items with Action Teams before reports go to the Board of Education
*To ensure plans are well written; to assure committees are resourced as needed (have access to information they need, particularly financial data)
*To help replace membership as volunteers opt out
Membership: Roughly 25 people, with 10 of them being external (parents, community members, business community members, etc.) Also included in the membership are two Board of Education members, two teachers, the district’s school & community relations director, a city council member or representative, and a township trustee or representative.

We Talked...
On Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006 Fairfield schools’representatives asked the questions listed below in a community dialogue designed to take the new Five-Year Strategic Plan to the next level.
From 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fairfield High School cafeteria, community members enjoyed some refreshments and engaged in a conversation about their visions, hopes and opinions about district’s future. Discussed were the following:
*What is family ownership?
*What does it look like to have families feel valued and cultural diversity respected?
*How can the Fairfield City Schools use technology to enhance the educational process and improve the community?
*How can we get the 75% of the population that do not have children in Fairfield City Schools to feel a direct benefit from the schools?
*What does instruction look like in the classroom where every child is succeeding?
*What are the community’s expectations of the district’s buildings/facilities?
