Our FHS School ACHIEVERS!!

Science Department at Work!

On Wednesday, April 17th the American Chemical Society presented the Ralph E. Oesper Chemistry Awards for Chemistry. These are based on scores from competitive chemistry exams for first year and for second year chemistry students.  The top five students from each exam are given cash awards.  The winner for the first year exam is Michael O'Connell. The winner for the second year award is Russell Ault. Russell also qualified to compete in the International Olympiad. Congratulations to both of them. Our students competed with others from Walnut Hills, Seven Hills, Cincinnati Country Day, Wyoming, and other excellent schools. To have Fairfield students win first place on both exams was a great reflection on the caliber of our students and of the chemistry program at FHS.  Other Fairfield students who had scores in the top 20 include Greg Vinson, Dylan Vespie, Brittney Solazzo, Joseph Moody, and Jerrod Ariss. Chemistry teachers Barry Williams and Catherine Hartman were also recognized as the chemistry teachers for these students.

Also a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the Fairfield Sciene Olympiad Team!!
The team placed 22nd overall out of 40 teams in the State tournament.  A special congratulations goes out to Marc Keith and Michael O'Connell for placing 1st in Five Star Science, and to Spencer Carran and Russell Ault for placing 5th in Cell Biology.
Congratulations!

CBIP Students are Successful!!

Mr. Michele and Mrs. Gebhart's CBIP students participated in a PowerPoint and a display board competition at Butler Tech's April 9 Spring CBIP Student Extravaganza.  Mr. Michele's students came in first place in the PowerPoint competition, and Mrs. Gebhart's students came in first in the display board competition.  Congratulations go out to students from both classes.

On April 1, Mrs. Gebhart's students completed a community service project at our local Shared Harvest food pantry.  While there, students boxed food care packages to be shared with low income seniors from three local counties.

Mr. Michele's CBIP class will be traveling to Hamilton on April 29 to complete a service learning project to benefit Habitat for Humanity.  Students will make potting benches to help with a flower sale that Habitat will put on this summer.  Earnings from this sale help fund some of the local projects that Habitat for Humanity does for needy families in Butler county.

Keep up the great work!

Fairfield Choraliers DOMINATE!!

The Fairfield Choraliers finished off an amazing competition season this weekend at the Wapakoneta Music & More Show Choir Invitational in Wapakoneta, Ohio. The Choraliers were given several trophies including "Best Costume," "Best Instrumental Ensemble," "Best Male Vocalist- Nick Laughlin," and "Class A Overall Champion."  The Choraliers had the highest score going into the night round, and came out victorious again during Finals, claiming "Best Overall Show," "Best Vocals," and GRAND CHAMPION!  This puts the Choraliers up to an impressive four Grand Champion awards for this year's group!  A huge thanks to all the students, parents, and supporters for a record year!

Not only did the Fairfield Choraliers win all of the previously mentioned hardware, they absolutely ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!!  The patrons at Wapakoneta were heard constantly during the Choralier performances uttering "Oh my gosh!" and "Wow!"  During breaks they asked if that was really a high school group, and where they could be seen again.

And probably the highest compliment of all was the standing ovation they received from three of the judges after their evening performance; something largely unheard of in showchoir competitions.

So when you see Jeff Clark or one of the Choraliers, set crew or award winning combo, make sure you tell them job well done.  Four Grand Championships in one season is something only THEY have accomplished in the 41 year history of the Choraliers!  Congratulations!!!

The tradition of excellence continues as auditions for the 2008-2009 choral ensembles are fast approaching!  We will hold auditions for all choirs at the end of April.  Information is available from Mr. Clark.

Congratulations Choraliers!!!

Calculus students attend “Calculus- The Musical”

On Thursday, March 20th, Calculus students from FHS attended a musical in support of mathematics.  Students made special t-shirts to wear to the musical and had a blast while learning something along the way!

You can visit their website at www.calculusthemusical.com to see a few Fairfield students that presented signs to the actors for their show.

Science Teacher gets hands-on experience!!

From January 2-11, 2008 Jennifer Webb had the once in a lifetime opportunity to walk in the same footsteps of the Father of Evolution-Charles Darwin!  She traveled to the Galapagos Islands with a group from her alma mater, The College of Mt. St. Joseph!  She was able to see rare birds, sea lions and lizards.  She created a PowerPoint presentation to show all of the pictures taken.  The slideshow can be found by cutting and pasting the following URL into your web browser...

What a great experience!

Interact Club Contributing to a GREAT Cause!

Our Interact Club at FHS worked extremely hard to raise money for a school in Uganda!  They promoted awareness with students in the school by having speakers, showing a documentary of students in Uganda and had a “basketball bash” to raise money for this school.  The Club raised approximately $2,000!
Representatives from the school in Uganda came to FHS to accept a check to their school.
