SCIENCE

Teacher travels for an amazing science opportunity!

Biology Teacher Jenn Webb returned from her educational travels to the Galapagos Islands! She brought back stories of huge sea turtles and marine iguanas. Ms. Webb was personally selected by a professor at Mount Saint Joseph College to travel to the Galapagos Islands. Although it was an unexpected personal expense, she couldn’t resist the opportunity to travel to one of the most respected sites in Biological Research. She was able to bring back personal knowledge and experiences to share with her students. Having first hand knowledge and experience of the Galapagos links our own Ms. Webb with the likes of Charles Darwin himself! We in the science department would like to thank Ms. Webb for taking the time and absorbing the personal expense in order to be a better science educator! Way to go Ms. Webb!

Science Goals for the 2008-2009 School Year:

1. Achieve 80% of all sophomores passing the Science Ohio Graduation Test with a score of Proficient on the first attempt for the March 2008 test.

2. Continue the use of Study Island as a department to increase exposure to Ohio Graduation Test benchmarks and questions.

3. Increase the use of graphing skills, reading graphs, and reading charts in the department, all OGT skills.

4. Update all common exams and make changes to the common exams and course maps as necessary.

5. Increase the exposure of all students to extended response questions to prepare for the Ohio Graduation Test.

6. Create a Science Sprint Class to address the deficiencies of students in Science in areas needed to receive a proficient score on the OGT.
