FAIRFIELD FRESHMAN SCHOOL

SCIENCE

All Freshman Science courses are one semester courses which prepare students for success on the Ohio Graduation Test. In these courses, students study Chemistry, Energy, Plate Tectonics, Earth's composition, and origins of the Earth and Universe. While the topics remain the same at every level, this course has been developed on several different levels to meet the learning and experiences of all our students. Eighth grade science teachers can assist students in selecting the most appropriate science course.

Biology I - (Prerequisite: Grade average of A and teacher recommendation in 8th grade science in the Fairfield Visions Program. Top students from Accelerated 9th Grade Science may enroll in Biology for 2nd semester, space permitting, if the receive an A in 9th grade science, have teacher recommendation, demonstrate exemplary study habits, and score high on a district science placement test in the late fall.) This college-preparatory course begins with an introduction to the techniques of scientific investigation. It continues with study of the cell, its structure and related biochemistry, continuity of life, the hereditary structures, cell division, and genetic patterns. This course also discusses concepts related to ecology, environmental issues and a survey of the organisms that surround us in the world.
