Social studies is a multi-disciplinary subject area, which includes content from the fields of American history, world history, world cultures, geography, the social sciences, economics, and political science. At each grade level from kindergarten through high school, significant topics, issues, and concepts are woven together to help student understand their community, their nation, and the world. The topics and concepts presented at each grade level are determined by Ohio’s Academic Content Standards in Social Studies. In addition to learning skills and content from the various disciplines in the social studies curriculum, students are encouraged to develop skills and attitudes that will enable them to become constructive, active citizens.
