IEP Resource - Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I have an IEP (Individualized Educational Program) meeting before the due date?
YES! You or any member of the team can call an IEP meeting whenever that individual feels the IEP needs to be reviewed.
2. Who is considered a member of the team?
Most often IEP team members consist of at least one parent, the special services teacher, one regular education teacher, any related services personnel and a District Representative. Others that might also be included might be the student, other teachers the student has, or another family member the parent would like to invite. The rule of thumb in "who can attend the meeting?" would be those people who have an educational interest in the student.
3. Who is responsible for setting up the meeting?
In most cases the special services teacher sets up the meeting. These cases would include: annual reviews, parent requested meetings, student transfer, Functional Behavior Assessments and Manifestation Determinations.

In some cases the psychologist would set up the meeting. Examples of these cases would be: an initial placement; most reevaluations; a transfer in student only if there is a missing or nonexistent MFE (Multifactored Evaluation) or an unacceptable MFE.

In rare cases, Special Services will set up the meeting. These are usually by parental request directly to our office.
4. Who do I go to for help?
Whenever you have a question or concern, please look to your child's special services teacher and/or the classroom teacher for help and assistance. Consider emailing them a question or request. You may also consider contacting the grade-level counselor or assistant principal.
