| Walk Across America |
| During our six week unit on Exercise, our students will be walking across America. This week, we have introduced the value of exercise and the importance of movement. Students were given pedometers to use during their school day. At the end of each week, we will track the number of steps per grade level, and monitor their progress as the students Walk Across America. We will chart this information each week during the unit. Ask your student how far their grade level has walked this week! Remember we strive for 10,000 steps every day! Keep moving!

| Student Absences |
When your child will be absent from school, for any reason, it is important to contact the school and let them know. Parents can either call or email - either is acceptable. But email, if it’s available, has advantages: The email also serves as the note that parents are required to send in regarding the absence. Parents who call the school will still need to send a note when their child returns. (Also, parents who call the school to advise that their child will be absent will still receive an automated attendance call that day, reminding them to send a note when the student returns to school. That is because the absence cannot be marked as “excused” until the note, or email, is received.)
Each school has set up a special email address to use, if your child is going to be absent email: eastattendance@fairfieldcityschools.com
Good attendance is critical for success in school. If you have any questions regarding the email or the notification system, please call Karen Anderson at the school office, 737-5000. |

| Character Counts |
| At East Elementary School we believe it is important not only to help our students excel academically, but to help their character grow as well. Each month we focus on teaching our students the importance of good character through lessons, modeling, and daily announcements. We recognize and award students for showing good character through in their daily actions and choices. Each month we focus on learning about a different character trait that will make each of us better people and make East Elementary a happy and safe place to be! |

We are excited to announce that the Lane Public Library BOOKMOBILE will be visiting our school once a month this year. Each child will have the opportunity to choose individual books to check out each month!! Please be sure to fill out the library card information sheet in your East Parent Handbook so that your child will not miss this great opportunity!!! If you filled out this paperwork in prior years, your child can reuse his/her card previously distributed. Please be sure to turn in your info. as soon as possible so that your child can check out books!
If your child did not return their book at their last visit, you can return the book to the library, or the drop box in front of Bridgewater Falls Wal-Mart. There are no late fees assigned to over due books, however, there are "lost" fees if the book is not returned in a timely manner. |
