Requirements for Substitute Teacher/ESL Tutor/Home Instructor/Summer School Teacher:
  • Ohio Teaching Certificate/License or Ohio Substitute Teaching License– A photocopy is acceptable. The Substitute Teaching License application may be downloaded from the Ohio Department of Education website www.ode.state.oh.us or we have them in our District Office. You will need a check or money order made out to Treasurer, State of Ohio, for either a five-year ($125) or one-year ($25) substitute license. NOTE: An initial license requires a BCII and FBI background check. A renewal license requires an FBI background check every five years. We will accept certified copies of background checks if they are dated within 365 days.
  • Transcripts - Your transcripts (Official, not photocopied) showing a minimum four (4) year degree awarded.

If you are applying to be a substitute nurse, you will need to bring in proof of your current RN license. You will also be required to have background checks as listed above.

Payroll Information - You will complete any necessary payroll information at the mandatory New Substitute Orientation Meeting. If you sub in any position before the meeting, you must contact Sue Hollingsworth (513) 858-7114 or hollingsworth_s@fairfield-city.k12.oh.us in our payroll department to schedule an appointment to complete your necessary payroll information.

Classified Staff Applicants

The Fairfield City School District offers many opportunities for classified staff employment such as bus drivers, educational assistants, food service assistants, custodial workers and clerical staff.  As Fairfield City Schools is a Civil Service employer, maintenance and clerical positions are hired through current Civil Service testing procedures. 
Substitute opportunities are also available in these areas.  A completed application and current BCII and FBI background checks are required for all substitute applicants to be placed on our classified substitute list.  Fairfield City Schools offers fingerprinting services by appointment for a charge of $46.00.  Results must be received by Fairfield City Schools directly from the Attorney General’s Office, no photocopies can be accepted.  Applications are available at our District Office located at 211 Donald Drive, Fairfield, Ohio.  Posted positions are also available at 829-6300, ext. #7268.

Fingerprinting/Criminal Background Record Checks (BCII and FBI)

Please call Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to make an appointment for fingerprinting. Certified applicants may call Lisa McCune at 513-858-7107; Classified applicants may call Bev Stacy at 513-858-7103.

COST: $22 BCII / $24 FBI / $46 for both (both are required for new hires)

On the fingerprint appointment day, bring your current/valid Ohio Drivers License or photo ID. NOTE: All criminal background/fingerprints are directed to the Ohio Dept. of Education, 25 South Front St, Columbus, OH 43215, and to Fairfield City Schools, 211 Donald Dr, Fairfield, OH 45014.
