Enthusiasm and compassion are words that the nominators for Teacher of the Year used to describe this year’s recipient. They have earned the respect of students and professional peers, and are often visited by former students who stop in from time to time to say “thanks for making a difference in my life.”This year’s recipient has never run from a challenge. In the classroom, the community, or in their personal life, this high school teacher seizes every opportunity to make the most of a circumstance, no matter what the issue.
“I cannot think of a teacher who embodies the ideals of a Fairfield Teacher of the Year” better than they do, wrote one of their nominators. The praise for her work with students is plenty. Inspirational. Humble. Model Teacher. Leader.
She demonstrates these traits in her classroom instruction, afterschool study sessions, phone calls to students’ homes, and her teacher lunch group at Fairfield High School.
From the ELL student struggling to pass the OGT, to her AP Government students with political aspirations, she embraces every opportunity to teach the lessons that make Fairfield students successful contributors to the future. Congratulations, Kim Young, 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year. Thank you for all that you do for the children of Fairfield.

It’s comforting to know that no matter how far away the recipient of the Support Staff Member of the Year Award is, they are always nearby.
A phone call, email or in-person visit by them is all it takes to turn a bad equipment day into a pleasant experience.
The problem can be as simple as not knowing how to turn on a laptop. It can be more complex and involve the written code of a sophisticated computer program. He treats the problem and the person as if it were the number one priority of the day.
“There is no such thing as a stupid question, or a stupid request,” he once told a co-worker.
In an emergency, he’s one who can be counted on to show up and help in any way to fix it, whether it be logging in remotely while on vacation to restore a server crash, or responding promptly to emails or phone calls that come in from around the district.
It’s not uncommon for him to be working on an early Saturday morning after an in-home alarm alerts him to a problem in the computer server room.
He is respected, well-liked and appreciated for his knowledge, patience and technology expertise. ongratulate Jeff Congratulations, Jeff McKinney, the 2011-2012 Support Staff Member of the Year. Thank you for your contributions to the staff and students in the Fairfield City School District.
